On Thursday, July 2nd, at 9:42 PM, the Sunapee Fire Department, Newbury Fire Department, and Sunapee Police Department were dispatched to Georges Mills Harbor for a report of someone on the water screaming for help.
Due to the nature of the call, New London Dispatch dispatched the incident as a Water Rescue Response, activating all available Sunapee Fire personnel and requesting one of Newbury Fire Department's fire boats to assist.
Sunapee C3 (Captain Steve Marshall) arrived on scene at 9:44 PM and established Georges Mills Command. The reporting party advised Captain Marshall that there was possibly a boat or swimmer in distress near the no-wake buoy just outside of Georges Mills Harbor.
Sunapee Fire Boat 1 and Newbury Fire Boat 1 immediately began an extensive search of the area by water, while Sunapee Police searched the shoreline and surrounding areas on land. New London Police Department also responded and searched the shoreline within their jurisdiction to assist with the operation.
At 10:36 PM, Sunapee Police made contact with an individual on shore who identified herself as the swimmer. She advised responders that she had safely made it back to land and was not in need of assistance.
With the subject accounted for and no further hazards identified, all Sunapee Fire, Newbury Fire, and assisting agencies cleared the scene.

Incidents involving possible people in the water are treated with the highest level of urgency, and the quick response from all agencies helped ensure a thorough search was completed safely and efficiently.
