Rescue 1 is a 2025 Spartan/Alexis Rescue Engine. Rescue 1 responds to all motor vehicle collisions, motor vehicle fires, ice rescues, and technical rescues, and can also respond to structure fires to assist Engine 2 if needed. Rescue 1 has a 5-person cab and a built-in EMS cabinet inside the cab, allowing Sunapee Fire personnel to provide medical aid once we arrive at accidents or technical rescues.
Rescue 1 holds 1000 gallons of water and 30 gallons of foam. Rescue 1 has a 1,500 GPM side-mount pump. Rescue 1 has 1000ft of supply line, two 1 3⁄4” crosslays, one 2 1⁄2” crosslay, and one 1 3⁄4” bumper line (or trash line).
Rescue 1 holds all of our motor vehicle accident equipment, technical rescue equipment, and basic firefighting equipment, such as our battery-operated Holmatro extrication tools, DeWalt battery-operated tools, cribbing, air bags, ice rescue suits, rope rescue equipment, traffic control devices, ground ladders, SCBAs, hose lines, and many more specialized tools.
Engine 2 is a 2011 HME Ahrens-Fox Rescue Engine. Engine 2 is our primary truck for all Fire/CO Alarms, structure fires, odor investigations, and is also our mutual aid engine. Engine 2 can also respond to motor vehicle accidents to assist Rescue 1 if heavy extrication is required or multiple vehicles are involved. Engine 2 has a six-person cab.
Engine 2 holds 1000 gallons of water and 30 gallons of foam. Engine 2 has a 1,500 GPM top-mount pump. Engine 2 has 1500ft of supply line, two 1 3⁄4” crosslays, one 2 1⁄2” crosslay, and one 1 3⁄4” bumper line (or trash line).
Engine 2 carries basic firefighting equipment, including SCBAs, hand tools, hose lines, ventilation fans, ground ladders, and water supply equipment. Engine 2 also holds a set of battery-operated Holmatro extrication equipment and cribbing. Engine 2 has a light tower on the roof that provides better visibility of scenes at night.
Engine 3 (formerly Rescue 1) is a 1999 Freightliner/V-Tec Engine. Engine 3 is kept in our Georges Mills Station and responds to all major structure fires in Sunapee and any type of call in Georges Mills. It can also be moved to the Main Station in case one of our primary engines is out of service. Engine 3 has a two person cab.
Engine 3 holds 750 gallons of water and features a 1250 GPM top-mount pump. Engine 3 has 800ft of supply line, two 1 3⁄4” crosslays, and one 2 1⁄2” crosslay.
Engine 3 holds basic firefighting equipment, including ground ladders, SCBAs, hand tools, and water supply equipment.
Tanker 4 is a 2015 International/E-One tanker. Tanker 4 responds to all structure fires in the Town of Sunapee and is a vital piece in supplying water to said scenes. Tanker 4 also responds to motor vehicle accidents on Interstate 89, Route 11, Route 103, and Route 103B and acts as a “blocker” for the first responders who are working on the scene. Tanker 4 also responds mutual aid to surrounding communities. Tanker 4 is one of the larger tanker trucks in our area; therefore, it responds to most structure fires in the Sunapee area.
Tanker 4 holds 3000 gallons of water. Tanker 4 has a 750GPM side-mount pump. Tanker 4 carries 800ft of supply line and has two 1 3⁄4” crosslays. It also carries a portable water pump that can be used on brush fires or on Boat 2.
Tanker 4 carries traffic control devices for motor vehicle accidents and water supply equipment, including a 1500-gallon porta-tank, a blitz fire, and multiple types of hose and hose connections.
Ladder 5 is a 2001 Pierce Dash 100ft aerial truck that the Town of Sunapee purchased used in 2006 from Hyattsville, Maryland. Ladder 5 responds to Fire/CO Alarms (if more than Engine 2 is needed on scene), technical rescues, chimney fires, and even the typical “cat stuck in a tree” call. Ladder 5 also responds to mutual aid requests from surrounding communities when needed.
Ladder 5 does not hold any water, but it is capable of having a hose line run up the ladder so water can be flowed from above a scene.
Ladder 5 carries basic firefighting equipment, including SCBAs, hand tools, chimney fire equipment, ventilation fans, and DeWalt battery-operated tools.
Forestry 6 (formerly Utility 1) is a 2019 Ford F-550 with a CET forestry skid unit mounted in the rear. Forestry 6 responds to all brush fires, trees/wires down, flooded basements, and motor vehicle accidents to assist with traffic control. Forestry 6 can also respond to medical emergencies if needed.
Forestry 6 holds 250 gallons of water and 30 gallons of foam. Forestry 6 has a 500GPM pump. Forestry 6 has one 1 3⁄4” crosslay and a 300ft booster reel.
Forestry 6 carries basic wildland firefighting and flood control equipment, including forestry hose, bladder bags, wildland hand tools, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and multiple sub-pumps.
Forestry 6 can also tow Boat 1, Boat 2, the HazMat trailer, and the Special Ops trailer.
Car 1 is a 2013 Ford Explorer that we got from the Sunapee Police Department when they got new cruisers. Car 1 is our primary medical response vehicle and responds to all medical calls and some fire calls.
Car 1 carries medical equipment, including our cardiac monitor, LUCAS CPR device, oxygen, airway equipment, medications, and bleeding control devices.
Utility 2 is a 2022 Chevy 2500. Utility 2 is set up as a multi-purpose vehicle. Utility 2 carries backup medical supplies and equipment to either backup/support Car 1 on a scene or handle a medical call by itself if Car 1 is unavailable. Another job of Utility 2 is our "command" unit for more significant incidents.
Utility 2 also has a V-Plow snowplow that allows Sunapee Fire to gain access to properties during large snowstorms, so the larger fire trucks or ambulances can reach the scene.
Utility 2 can also tow Boat 1, Boat 2, the HazMat trailer, and the Special Ops trailer.
The Argo and Special Ops Trailer are our wilderness rescue/brush fire response unit. The Argo is a 2021 Argo 8x8 UTV that has tracks. The Argo can maneuver through the woods, over mud and snow, very easily, allowing personnel to reach injured patients on hiking trails or brush fires deep in the woods.
The Argo also has an All-Terrain Rescue Trailer that holds a Stokes basket, which we can pull behind it. This allows us to easily transport a patient out of the woods while continuing to conduct patient care.
The Special Ops Trailer holds not only the Argo and smaller All-Terrain Rescue Trailer, but also all our wilderness rescue backpacks and rescue gear.
Sunapee Boat 1 is a 2023 Milpro SRA-750 powered by a 250-horsepower Yamaha four-cycle outboard. Boat 1 features an aluminum hull surrounded by inflatable tubes. Boat 1’s overall length is 22 feet. Boat 1 responds to all calls on Lake Sunapee, including water rescues, medical emergencies on the water, but also on the various islands across the lake, brush fires on the islands, structure fires on the islands, and boat fires. Boat 1 also responds to assist stranded boaters and will tow them to safety.
Sunapee Boat 1 has a 375 GPM front-mounted fire pump with a deck gun. Boat 1 also carries 150ft of 1 3⁄4” hose line.
Sunapee Boat 1 is outfitted with both firefighting and rescue/EMS gear, including spotlights, rescue ropes, backboards, fire extinguishers, water cans, and miscellaneous safety and rescue equipment.
Sunapee Boat 1 is kept at the Safety Services Dock in Sunapee Harbor from shortly after ice goes out to late October/early November.
Boat 2 is a 2013 Rescue One Connector boat with a 60 hp jet drive Evinrude engine. All required marine safety equipment is stored on the boat. Extra equipment required for the specific mission is taken from apparatus as needed.
Boat 2 is kept in the Georges Mills Station and is used to respond mutual aid to surrounding towns for water rescues, respond to water rescues on the smaller bodies of water in town, or can be used as a support boat in addition to Boat 1 on Lake Sunapee.
Sunapee Fire also owns and operates two HazMat trailers that are equipped to respond to a HazMat Incident (Spill, Leak, Etc.) on both land and water. The smaller HazMat trailer houses large portable containment booms that we can put onto a body of water to contain a spill or leak on Lake Sunapee or one of the smaller ponds in town. The larger HazMat trailer has scene lighting for operating at calls during the night, and also stores containment devices and tools for spills and leaks on land.
